My cats are indoor and neutered, each has their own litterbox (7 cats, 7 litterboxes) which I keep very clean, however 2 of them have sprayed our furniture. I have read that Oxy-clean helps, does it work, and if so, could it bleach our dark green furniture?

Hi Meg…oxy-clean works by removing stains on items that are not colour-fast, however it will not remove the urine odours. Generally, an enzyme neutralizer such as Nature's Miracle Just for Cats (not plain Nature's Miracle) eliminates and breaks down the urine proteins the best. It works by thoroughly soaking the areas affected and then allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Couch will require extra solution so consider buying the Gallon size to achieve the results.

I've never tried OxyClean but I know that Natures Miracle works pretty good. You can buy it at the pet store and they make a certain type especially for cat urine.

I wouldn't use Oxy Clean, I have found that is doesn't work that well. Check the pet isle at Walmart or your local pet store for an upholstery cleaner to remove pet odor, also febreeze after it is clean should do the trick.

Removing those nasty cats from your house would be a better solution.
Don't you know how many diseases those nasty things carry?
    Yuck!

If you are concerned about bleaching I wouldn't use the oxy-clean. The earlier answer suggested a grat product Natures Miracle you can find at the Pet Store. This stuff works great and wont effect the color on your couches or carpet.

I am facing the same type of problem right now, only with throw rugs. I plan to leave them outside (even if they freeze) and then bring them in for a good vinegar soaking in the tub and then wash a couple more times. One time my neutered male urinated on a love seat because I had changed his litter box and didnt bring it back in to the room quickly enough. Luckily it had a slip cover on it. I promptly washed the slipcover and really scrubbed at the upholstery underneath. I also sprayed it heavily with Febreeze ( i think I actually used the dollar store brand). I also sprinkled carpet deodorizer on it and left it overnight or so. Then swept it real well. Then I put the washed slipcover back on after a couple of days or so. If i were you, I would be sure to cover the futon with something thick…like a doubled over throw or heavy blanket…in the hopes that your cat will not be able to smell the previously urinated-on spots. I think when they smell it, they tend to keep using it…especially in a multicat household, like mine and yours! Good luck and by the way, i would like to drop kick the person that told you to get rid of the cats! Heartless fool and waste of a human soul anyway! I like my cats more than most humans and those kind of people are why! …btw….my cat urinated under my Christmas tree on Christmas morning and I still love her!
